Beach Day Friday, July 1st
Today was beach day as well as our last day in Glenelg. After a long week of hiking and rehearsing we dedicated our final day to relax… We still hiked though, so was it really relaxing? It was a great day, regardless. It was a great way to end the week. We traveled for a lot of hours (I lost count), we rehearsed daily with an absolute gem that is Davy, and we had many wee walks. It also didn’t help that the sun didn’t set until midnight; the differentiation between day and night was very confusing. We began our final day with a wee walk of “half a mile” to the beach. I’ve walked half a mile before, you can’t convince me that walk was only half a mile. While on the wee walk Eddie shared stories and performed a monologue and damn was he good. Once we finally arrived at the beach the scenery was breathtaking. We were greeted by a nearby island in which some of us swam to. The water was clear. The water was unbelievably cold, yet bearable at the same time.

The picnic was immaculate and it was also my first time eating from a fire.

We ended this great day by hosting a ceilidh in which we were joined by some very talented members of the community. Hailey did an outstanding job as an emcee might I add. I was genuinely blown away by all of the performances. The company shared a part of themselves and their gifts that many didn’t know about. Not only was it a great set of fun performances, it was also kind of moving. I played the upright bass in front of an audience for the first time and I’ve only been playing for a couple of months so I was pretty proud. Here’s a recap of honorable mentions of the week:
The moment I realized I loved the highlands

A horse that lived next to our lodging. We named her Gretchen

Matt enjoying tea with Gretchen

Wee walk at the Isle of Sky and Shadow Queen’s castle

Donna’s (should be world-renowned) Chocolate Tart
