The other day I asked my fellow company member “How long ago does it feel like it’s been since we arrived in Glasgow?” to which she answered: “7 years” And I agreed. But then it also feels like it’s been 10 seconds. It’s quite hard to believe that by the end of this week we will be saying goodbye to our time in Glasgow. What a whirlwind these past few weeks have been. The combination of classes, rehearsals, and other activities have made time fly by. This week I have been reflecting on my time in Glasgow and I am quite content with the length of time we have spent here. Despite the rigorous rehearsal and class schedule, I found plenty of time to explore and enjoy the city center with my other company members– we also got to celebrate a few birthdays! Woop woop!
From group karaoke to game nights to exploring the city there have been many standout moments this month. A big highlight from this trip was visiting the west end of Glasgow. We explored the Kelvingrove museum, University of Glasgow, and the botanical gardens. At the botanical gardens we got to see a brilliant performance of Duchess of Malfi put on by Bard in the Botanics. As far as the city center goes, there are a variety of great food places to choose from. Some of my favorites include Kokoro, The Glasgow Art Cafe, Maki & Ramen, and Kozi Cafe. Despite being here for many weeks I feel I barely scratched the surface of the city– there’s so much to do. But I can proudly say that I could do the walk from RCS to our accommodations with my eyes closed.
With the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on the horizon, rehearsals have been in full swing. I think after this month we could break the record for most time spent in rehearsal room R5 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The main focus this past week has been running the show and getting all the technical aspects coming together. Everyone’s full attention and cooperation has been needed to ensure we can make good progress. Even though we are dealing with technical aspects, we as actors have still gotten to play around and explore our characters, diving deeper into our objectives. Cast members also got to wear costumes for our first full run the other day and that was so exciting! From now on it’s just a race to the finish line. It’s crazy to think that in just a week’s time we will be opening Lifelong at the Assembly Theater!
As sad as I am to leave Glasgow, I am getting quite excited about Edinburgh and what awaits us there. I am looking most forward to visiting Edinburgh Castle and getting fully immersed in the Fringe. I keep reminding myself to really be present and take it all in as this is the last stretch of our trip. My goal is to watch at least 30 shows so fingers crossed I can make that come true. I cannot wait for the adventures to come! ‘Til next time Glasgow and see you soon Edinburgh! 🙂
