There is no place quite like Scotland, from the rolling green hills of the highlands, to the lively streets in Glasgow, Scotland has been an absolute dream and honestly, a paradox. The days are so long yet they seem to fly by, and we’ve been here for more than a month and it feels like we’ve been here forever but also like we just arrived. Needless to say that when this trip is over I will be constantly yearning to come back.
This weekend we moved from Glasgow to Edinburgh. I left with a feeling of melancholy from leaving the city that we got to explore for a month. We saw amazing theatre, ate some of the most amazing and flavorful food, and packed our nights with endless adventures. Yet I was excited to finally get to Edinburgh. We had been talking about arriving here for so long, and when we went on the train it all began to feel real.
Stepping off the platform of the train, you could already tell you were in a new environment. Edinburgh felt grand, like every avenue was beaming with life and exciting things for its inhabitants to try. We were fortunate enough to have this past Saturday and Sunday off so my and my friends and I did not waste a second. We went to Edinburgh castle and got to see the beautiful architecture and just how full of life the city was. We continued down the busy streets and found the most interesting shops, one which was just a Harry Potter shop that sold things that would make any fan of the series freak out. We also happened to find not one but TWO sites where they had shot Avengers:Infinity War, and it was unreal! Anyone who knows me knows I am a pretty big fan, and so getting to stand in the spot where Elizabeth Olsen stood was one of the most mind-blowing things to have happened. After this high we decided to keep the good times rolling by seeing a movie and after words playing laser tag, which I won by the way not to brag!
We continued our Edinburgh adventure with a hike to Holyrood Park. Nothing could have prepared me for how treacherous hike this was going to be. We had been hiking in the highlands everyday so I definitely overestimated my hiking abilities. While the hike was steep and I had to take a lot of breaks in between, the view was unlike anything I had ever seen before. The top of the hike showed the whole city of Glasgow and made you feel like being there made you a part of something so grand.
I am so excited to be putting up no one is coming to save us, the cast and production have worked so hard on this piece of theatre and I can’t wait for people to finally get to come and see it. This experience has truly been like no other and I feel so very lucky to be able to be a part of something like this. From the friendships I am creating, the memories I have made, and the theatre we get to create together, it is no wonder that this program is so highly coveted.
